2026 Ohio State Tests released items and practice resources

Beginning with the spring 2026 Ohio State Tests (OST), the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce and Cambium Assessment have introduced a new Item Release Library for viewing released test questions and related information.

In previous years, released questions were available as Released Item Tests in the Ohio State Tests Practice Site, with additional information provided through separate scoring guide PDFs. Starting in 2026, newly released items and their supporting information are available together through the new Item Release Library, which Ohio announced as part of its 2026-27 Cambium system updates.

Here’s what changed and how Ohio educators can use released OST questions throughout the school year.

Each year, Ohio releases a portion of the questions used on the spring Ohio State Tests. These released items give educators a closer look at the questions students encounter on state assessments and can also serve as useful classroom resources.

The biggest change for 2026 is where educators access those questions.

For items released in 2025 and earlier, educators can continue to find Released Item Tests through Ohio’s Practice Site and use the accompanying scoring guides available through the test portal.

Beginning with the spring 2026 administration, newly released items are instead available through the Item Release Library.

This makes it easier for educators to explore released questions and the information associated with each item in one place.

Released items can provide more than examples of test questions.

Ohio’s item release resources have included information such as the Ohio Learning Standard associated with an item, answer keys, scoring rubrics, sample student responses, scoring notes, and rationales explaining why response options are correct or incorrect.

They have also included Depth of Knowledge information for ELA, mathematics, and social studies and Cognitive Demand information for science.

Beginning with the 2026 release, this type of supporting information is incorporated into the new Item Release Library rather than requiring educators to rely on separate Item Release Scoring Guide PDFs. Educators can also search released items by grade and subject to find questions relevant to their students.

That can make released items useful not only for test preparation, but also for understanding how Ohio’s Learning Standards are assessed and discussing student responses during instruction.

Teachers looking for additional Ohio State Test practice can explore years of released Ohio assessments in Edcite.

Edcite has digitized released OST content from 2015 through 2025, allowing teachers to assign released questions directly to students, collect responses, and review results online.

This gives students an opportunity to practice with the tools and testing experience they’ll encounter on Ohio’s online assessments.
