The 2026 STAAR released test questions are now available from the Texas Education Agency (TEA).

Teachers can access released test forms, answer keys, item rationales, and information about the student expectations tested across STAAR grade levels and subjects.

Using Released STAAR Questions with Students

Released questions can be useful throughout the school year, not just in the weeks before STAAR.

Teachers can use a small set of questions to check understanding of previously taught standards, build short TEKS-aligned assessments, or give students experience with the question types and online tools they’ll encounter on STAAR.

They can also be helpful after instruction. If students struggle with a particular standard, teachers can review their responses, provide additional support, and reassess with similar questions to see whether their understanding has changed.

Looking for More Free STAAR Practice?

Released tests are a great starting point, but teachers may want additional opportunities for students to practice STAAR-aligned content throughout the year.

Edcite has digitized released STAAR tests from 2016, 2018, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, and 2025, making them available in an online assessment environment where teachers can assign them directly to students. What’s Next for STAAR?

Texas is also preparing for significant changes to statewide assessment. Beginning in the 2027–2028 school year, Texas will replace STAAR with a new instructionally supportive assessment program, referred to as the Student Success Tool (SST). For grades 3–8, the new system will include beginning-, middle-, and end-of-year assessments designed to provide more information about student progress throughout the year.
