As a school leader, setting the tone for review season is essential to ensure students and staff have a smooth end of year that focuses on learning, not stressful drill and kill. With the help of Edcite’s assessments and reports, a little planning now can set you up for success as a school when review season arrives!

Spend some time with your lead team and teacher leaders to get specific. What are the non-negotiables for effective review at your school? Consider what re-teach calendars and lessons should include, how teachers and students will track their progress, and what celebrations you want everyone on campus to include.

  • Edcite Tip: Use your Reports Hub in Edcite to know which teachers/classes may need more support in order to bring this vision to life. Pro-actively schedule more time to support these teachers or student groups.

Share your vision with staff so that everyone on campus can name the specific actions they will take to ensure effective review. Whenever possible, work with teachers individually or in groups to allow them to see exemplar reviews/trackers/celebrations, and practice their own!

  • Edcite Tip: Use your Reports Hub to find high performing teachers and, whenever possible, include them in the planning and delivery of professional development for effective reviews.

Consider what decision-making power you have on your campus, and think outside the box. Can you get creative with scheduling? When are you and other leaders available to jump in and support small groups? Can you add extra teachers into specific classes for support and/or extension? What celebrations can you plan for teachers who are reviewing content effectively?

  • Edcite Tip: Create student groups within the Item Analysis Report so that you know exactly which students need small group re-teaches for specific misconceptions. Then, use staff creatively to support those re-teaches!

Observe teachers and students in real time and give adjusting feedback and praise. Use what you see in your observations to add to your bank of exemplars and consider how your plan might need to evolve.

  • Edcite Tip: Consider norming the number of review assessments teachers give in Edcite, so you can use your Reports Hub to track progress throughout the re-teach calendar.
